Happy
Manolo's secret-recipe carrot cake was wonderful. He and Constance were short a few candles though, "But then so am I," she joked. Doug gave me a book on philosophy. Dick Donner gave me a charming doormat. Eddie Murphy sent me a signed first edition of my favorite poetess, Mary Oliver. He's got a mind like a steel trap. I don't know how he remembered since I haven't mentioned her in years. Scotty will of course give me a racquetball lesson. Even Ishii and his kids stopped by for some cake. He gave me one of those mesmerizing gambling pinball games everyone is addicted to over in Japan. Manolo gave me some origami papers. They shined gold and silver on the beam of sunlight in the gray room. My childhood friend Jason from Council Bluffs sent me a framed picture of us in 1961. Happy Birthday to me, Diary. Here's to one more rotation on the inside.
